What is this thing? you ask, tapping on the screen. What's it for?

This blog is for anyone who survived the 2020 pandemic and came out of it with the feeling that they needed to change their lives in a big way. Maybe you spent the hours locked inside your house, trapped into a job for which you had to be both absurdly thankful for (for your livelihood) and productive at (while the world seemed to be falling apart). Maybe you lost your job, and had to collect unemployment while staring into the future at your own financial uncertainty. Maybe you got coronavirus and didn't qualify for hospitalization, but you did have to lie around feeling miserable for months. Maybe the stress of learning about, dealing with, or participating in the Black Lives Matter movement left you with a deep dissatisfaction with the current system. On top of that, you might have guilt or shame for feeling bad, because, after all, many people had it far worse than you.

The problem (one of them, anyway) is that making a big life change, or deciding to take control of your life, can take energy, time, and money, not to mention a mindset shift ... as well as having to start learning a whole new batch of skills when you're already an adult. There is also the bald fact that there is no one way to do this. We can paralyze ourselves with choices.

So, I'm here to help explore this. I'm going to start by examining ideas presented in new and existing articles, reviewing books dealing with the subject, and soon, interviewing people. I'm also going to be investigating what it means to be a freelancer, and in charge of the course of your own life. Let's start our second careers!

The most regretful people on earth are those who felt the call to creative work, who felt their own creative power restive and uprising, and gave to it neither power nor time.

We are getting our driver's licenses and we are driving off into the sunset.

My goals may change and morph, but I'll be right here to report on it all. Am I going to make mistakes? Yeah, probably, but I'll learn from them — and you can, too.

I hope you'll join me on this journey and find some inspiration!
